The 3C’s: Choice, Chance, Change

The 3C’s: Choice, Chance, Change

There is something almost ironic about these 3 C’s. They are only the beginning of three simple words, yet those words carry a weight that can shape the direction of an entire life.

Choice. Chance. Change.

They sound simple, but they are not. Each one of them demands something from us. Each one forces us to look at life with more honesty, more courage, and sometimes more pain than we expected. Because the truth is that a good life is not only built by what happens to us, but by the way we choose to face our reality and the way we deal with adversity when it arrives.

Life will test us through situations, through people, through silence, through loss, through disappointment, and even through our own weaknesses. In those moments, our ability to see clearly becomes one of the most important things we can develop. Discernment is not just about knowing what is right or wrong. It is about understanding what deserves our energy, what needs to be left behind, what needs to be faced, and what kind of person we are becoming in the middle of it all.

That is why I decided to write this article in three parts. Not because life can be perfectly divided into three ideas, but because sometimes we need to slow down and look at things one by one. We need to understand that before something changes, something must be chosen. Before something is experienced, a chance must be taken. And before life becomes different, we must be different enough to move with it.

You Must Make The Choice

No matter the circumstances you are in, the desire to change things for the better starts somewhere inside you. It begins as a quiet feeling, sometimes even as a discomfort. A natural awareness that things could be better, that you could be better, that life does not have to remain exactly as it is.

And when that feeling appears, you have a responsibility toward it.

Because it is easy to blame circumstances. It is easy to say that the timing is not right, that the people around us are not helping, that the past was too heavy, or that the future feels too uncertain. And sometimes, those things are true. Sometimes life is not fair. Sometimes we are placed in situations we did not choose, surrounded by people who do not understand us, carrying problems we never asked for.

But even then, there is still something that belongs to us. Our response. Our direction. Our decision to not become a passive spectator of our own life.

Making the choice does not mean suddenly becoming perfect. It does not mean that from that moment on, we will never fail, never hesitate, never contradict ourselves. We are human. Many times we bite our own tongue because we do not fully live up to what we said we would do. We make promises to ourselves and break them. We say we will change and then fall back into old habits. We want discipline, but comfort wins. We want peace, but we still hold on to what hurts us.

But even with all of that, if there is one person we must remain loyal to, it is ourselves.

Not loyal to our excuses. Not loyal to our fears. Not loyal to the version of us that keeps delaying life. Loyal to the person we know we could become if we stopped betraying our own potential.

Because if we are not able to look in the mirror and choose what is better for us, then sooner or later we will pay the price. Maybe not immediately. Maybe life will allow us to ignore it for a while. But eventually, the cost appears. It appears in regret. In wasted time. In relationships that drained us. In opportunities we ignored. In the painful realization that we knew what we had to do, but we did not choose it when it mattered.

The choice is not always loud. Sometimes it is silent. Sometimes it is deciding to walk away. Sometimes it is deciding to try again. Sometimes it is choosing discipline when nobody is watching. Sometimes it is choosing yourself even when it feels selfish to do so.

But you must make the choice.

Because without choice, everything else becomes accidental.

To Take The Chance

Opportunities do not appear every day. Not the real ones. Not the ones that can open a new part of life, create a memory, heal something inside us, or take us somewhere we never imagined.

Because almost everything is finite, even when we pretend it is not.

The people who are there for us, whether they are ten meters away or one phone call away, are not guaranteed forever. The chance to build memories with them is not something we should treat as ordinary. One day, the conversations we postponed, the visits we delayed, the words we did not say, and the moments we thought would always be available may no longer be there.

That is why taking the chance is not only about ambition. It is not only about career, money, success, or chasing a dream. Sometimes taking the chance means being present with the people who matter. It means saying yes to a moment that will never repeat itself. It means allowing ourselves to live instead of just planning to live.

There are also opportunities to do the things we always wanted to do, but never had the will, courage, or motivation to begin. Things we kept in our mind for months or years, waiting for the perfect version of ourselves to appear before starting. But that perfect version may never come. Sometimes we become that version only after we take the chance.

We often wait for certainty before moving, but life rarely gives certainty before action. Most of the time, we only understand the value of an opportunity after we have already chosen to step into it. That is why chances are connected to choice. We take opportunities after making a conscious decision to act, to move, to risk, to do something different from what we have always done.

And yes, taking a chance can hurt. It can disappoint us. It can expose us to failure, rejection, or uncertainty. But there is a kind of pain that comes from trying, and there is another kind of pain that comes from never knowing.

The first one can teach us. The second one can haunt us.

Because in the end, everything ends. Seasons end. People leave. Time passes. Dreams either become built or abandoned. And it is far better to live a memorable life with pain in the middle of it than to live surrounded by regret because we never tried, never chose, and never grabbed the opportunities that could have opened new horizons.

Sometimes the chance is not perfect. Sometimes it arrives at a difficult time. Sometimes we do not feel ready. But maybe readiness is not the requirement. Maybe courage is.

And sometimes the greatest opportunities are not the ones that look impressive from the outside. Sometimes they are the simple ones. A conversation. A decision. A trip. A project. A risk. A person smiling at us, waiting for us to show up not someday, but now.

Take the chance while it is still in front of you.

If You Want Anything in Life To Change

If you want anything in life to change, you cannot remain exactly the same.

This may sound obvious, but it is one of the hardest truths to accept. Because many times we want a different reality while still protecting the same habits, the same mindset, the same fears, the same excuses, and the same version of ourselves that created the life we now want to escape.

We want peace, but we keep entertaining chaos.
We want growth, but we avoid discomfort.
We want respect, but we keep allowing people to cross our boundaries.
We want a new life, but we keep moving like the old one is still enough.

Change demands honesty. Real honesty. The kind that does not allow us to lie to ourselves anymore. The kind that forces us to admit when we are the problem, when we are delaying our own progress, when we are accepting less than we deserve, or when we are waiting for life to save us instead of taking responsibility for the part we can control.

And that is not easy. Change is uncomfortable because it asks us to leave behind versions of ourselves that once protected us. Sometimes our habits were born from survival. Sometimes our fears were built from past experiences. Sometimes the way we avoid things comes from a place that once made sense. But what once protected us can later become the same thing that limits us.

That is why change is not only about becoming better. It is also about letting go.

Letting go of the identity that keeps us small. Letting go of the need to be understood by everyone. Letting go of the comfort of postponing decisions. Letting go of people who only love us when we abandon ourselves. Letting go of the illusion that one day everything will be perfect before we begin.

Because change does not usually arrive as a dramatic moment. Most of the time, change is quiet. It happens in small decisions repeated every day. It happens when we choose discipline over impulse. Silence over reaction. Distance over disrespect. Effort over excuses. Faith over fear.

And even then, change is not linear.

There will be days when you feel strong and days when you feel like you are back at the beginning. There will be moments where you will question everything. You will wonder if you are really changing, if it is worth it, if your effort is leading somewhere. But those moments do not mean you are failing. They mean you are human.

Real change is not proven by never falling. It is proven by refusing to stay down in the same place.

At some point, we need to understand that the life we want will require a version of us that is willing to act differently, think differently, and endure differently. Not because we are not enough as we are, but because becoming more requires movement. It requires sacrifice. It requires the courage to outgrow what is familiar.

And maybe that is the most difficult part. Familiar pain can feel safer than unknown growth. We can become so used to what hurts us that freedom feels uncomfortable. We can stay in places, relationships, routines, and mental patterns that destroy us slowly, simply because they are familiar.

But if we truly want change, we must stop confusing familiarity with destiny.

Your current reality is not a sentence. It is a reflection of many things, some you controlled and some you did not. But your future will also be shaped by what you decide to do from this point forward.

Choice gives you direction.
Chance gives you movement.
Change gives you transformation.

And together, these 3 C’s become more than words. They become a way of living.

Because first, you must choose.
Then, you must take the chance.
And finally, you must be willing to change.

Not someday. Not when everything feels easy. Not when fear disappears completely.

Now.

Because life does not wait for us to become ready. It keeps moving. And the question is not whether time will pass. It will. The real question is whether we will pass through time as the same person, carrying the same regrets, or whether we will have the courage to become someone we can finally be proud of.
